The main Basware alternatives for a UK mid-market finance team are Rillion, Yooz and ISPnext, which are available in the UK through Stratas, and Esker, Medius, Quadient AP, Stampli and Tipalti. Which one fits depends on your ERP, how many entities you run, whether you want accounts payable on its own or the whole source-to-pay cycle, and who will implement and support it here.

A note on where we stand. Stratas is a UK consultancy that resells, implements and supports Rillion, Yooz and ISPnext. We do not sell the other five platforms in this guide. We have described every platform from its own public pages and linked the source, so you can check each claim yourself.

What Basware does

Basware describes its platform as invoice lifecycle management. It covers AP automation, an e-invoicing network for sending and receiving e-invoices, and procure-to-pay with e-procurement and a marketplace. Basware says it is trusted by 6,500+ CFOs worldwide and covers 190+ countries.

That breadth suits large, multi-country organisations, and Basware’s own site quotes the analyst firm IDC describing it as particularly well suited for global enterprises. If that describes your business, Basware deserves a place on your shortlist.

Why UK finance teams look at Basware alternatives

Most teams we speak to who compare platforms are working through questions of fit. These are the ones that usually start the search:

  • Scale. Is a platform built for global enterprises the right size for a UK group with a handful of entities and one ERP?

  • Scope. Do we need accounts payable automation, or the whole cycle from sourcing and contracts through to payment?

  • ERP fit. Is there a proven connector for the exact ERP and version we run, such as Sage 200, Business Central or Infor M3?

  • Delivery. Who implements it in the UK, who supports it afterwards, and do they know our ERP?

None of these has a universal answer, which is why the platforms below are described by who they suit.

Implemented and supported in the UK by Stratas

These three platforms are available in the UK through Stratas, which resells, implements and supports them. They are listed alphabetically. Each one suits a different kind of finance team, and we recommend whichever fits your ERP and your process. If none of them fits, we will say so.

Rillion

Who it suits. Rillion describes its product as AP automation for companies with complex needs, used by mid-sized and large organisations. It suits UK finance teams with several entities, a mix of PO and non-PO invoices, and approval rules that follow the org chart.

Key features.

  • AI invoice capture at header and line level, with no templates or training. Rillion reports over 95% capture accuracy.

  • Account coding suggested from your own posting history.

  • Approval routing that predicts the approver with AI, or follows rules you set.

  • Three-way purchase order matching against POs and goods receipts.

  • Multi-entity management, e-invoicing, and payment automation with fraud prevention.

  • Native connectors for 50+ ERPs by Rillion’s own figure. Rillion names Dynamics 365 Finance, Business Central, NetSuite, Sage X3, Sage Intacct and SAP Business One.

Stand-out feature. Capture that is accurate from the first invoice a new supplier sends, with no per-supplier setup to maintain.

Yooz

Who it suits. Yooz is a cloud purchase-to-pay platform. It suits small and mid-sized finance teams that want to move off manual invoice processing with a tool that needs little IT involvement.

Key features.

  • AI-based data extraction from invoices arriving by email, scan, upload or mobile.

  • Automated GL coding and purchase order matching.

  • Purchase requests and purchase orders created and approved through workflows.

  • Yooz AI, which Yooz describes as its highest level of automation.

  • Export to a wide range of finance systems. Yooz names Microsoft Dynamics 365, Oracle NetSuite, Xero, Exact, Infor, SAP, Acumatica and QuickBooks Online.

Stand-out feature. Purchasing and invoice processing in one cloud tool, from the purchase request through to export into your finance system.

ISPnext

Who it suits. ISPnext is a source-to-pay platform that focuses on mid-sized and larger organisations across Europe. It suits groups that want procurement, contracts and invoice processing on one platform, particularly on Dynamics 365 Finance and Operations, Business Central, Infor M3, Infor LN, SyteLine or SAP.

Key features.

  • Source-to-contract modules: sourcing, vendor management and contract management.

  • Procure-to-pay modules: procurement, AP automation, spend analytics and procurement value management.

  • nextAI for invoice recognition, supplier suggestions, risk signalling and spend insight.

  • E-invoicing, rebate management, dynamic discounting and budget management as additions.

  • ISO 27001 certification and ISAE 3402 Type II assurance.

  • 30+ standard ERP integrations by ISPnext’s own figure, plus an API for other systems.

Stand-out feature. One platform from sourcing to payment, sold in modules on the same data model, so invoices can be checked against contracted rates and budgets before money is committed.

Other Basware alternatives

Stratas does not sell these platforms. Each is described from its own public pages, listed alphabetically, with a note on when it is worth a look.

Esker

Esker covers source-to-pay, including accounts payable, procurement and supplier management, and order-to-cash, including accounts receivable and invoice delivery. Its AI platform is called Esker Synergy AI. Esker says it integrates with over 70 different ERP solutions and is designed to work alongside your ERP.

Worth a look if you want accounts payable and accounts receivable automation from one supplier.

Medius

Medius describes its product as autonomous AP powered by agentic AI. Alongside AP automation it lists statement reconciliation, payments, and fraud and risk detection, plus Medius Copilot for approvers and Supplier Conversations for supplier queries. Its ERP page lists fully managed integrations for Business Central, Dynamics 365 Finance and Operations, NetSuite, Oracle Fusion and SAP S/4HANA, with partner integrations for systems including Sage X3, Infor M3 and Unit4.

Worth a look if you run one of those ERPs and want supplier statement reconciliation in the same AP platform.

Quadient AP

Quadient AP is built, in Quadient’s words, for growing and mid-sized businesses looking for control, visibility and simplicity. It captures invoices from email, scan, upload or EDI, routes approvals on business rules with mobile approval, and validates and schedules payments with vendor checks and duplicate detection. Quadient names integrations with Microsoft Dynamics, QuickBooks, NetSuite, Sage Intacct, SAP Business One, Sage and Xero.

Worth a look if you are a growing business on one of those accounting systems and want approvals and payments in one place.

Stampli

Stampli calls itself an intelligent procure-to-pay platform. Its AI, Billy, codes, routes, matches and approves invoices based on how your business has handled them, and every question and decision stays attached to the invoice. Stampli says your ERP stays the system of record, and names connectors including QuickBooks Online, SAP ECC, NetSuite and Sage Intacct.

Worth a look if your approvers and AP team spend a lot of time discussing invoices and you want those conversations kept on the invoice itself.

Tipalti

Tipalti combines AP automation with global payments. Its UK site lists supplier management, invoice management, PO matching, self-billing invoices and payment reconciliation, and says it makes cross-border payments to 200+ countries and territories in 120 currencies. Tipalti names integrations including Xero, Acumatica, Sage, NetSuite, Microsoft Dynamics and QuickBooks.

Worth a look if you pay a large number of suppliers or payees across many countries and currencies.

How to choose a Basware alternative

Start from your own process and systems. These questions separate the options quickly:

  • Which ERP and version do we run, and is there a proven connector for it, or will someone need to build one?

  • Do we need AP on its own, or procurement and contracts as well?

  • How many entities, VAT registrations and currencies do we run, and how does the platform keep each one separate?

  • What happens to an invoice that fails to match its purchase order, and who sees the reason?

  • Who implements it in the UK, who supports it after go-live, and how many times have they delivered it on our ERP?

  • Can we run a sample of our own invoices through it, including the scanned and multi-page ones?

Our guide to choosing AP automation goes further on what predicts a rollout that works. If you are also preparing for e-invoicing, the UK e-invoicing mandate page sets out what is confirmed so far.

Why buy through a UK implementation partner

Whether AP software works for you depends as much on the process design, the ERP integration and the support after go-live as on the platform. Buying Rillion, Yooz or ISPnext through Stratas means:

  • One contract with Stratas, covering licensing, implementation, support and ongoing changes.

  • A UK support team working UK hours, and the same team that implemented your system supports it afterwards.

  • ERP integration delivered by that same team. We have delivered integrations across 100+ ERP and accounting systems.

  • An honest recommendation. If the platform is the wrong fit for you, we will tell you on the first call and point you somewhere better.

Stratas works with 150+ customers and has implemented automation that has processed 5M+ invoices. You can see how we approach a rollout on our AP automation page.

Frequently asked questions

What are the main Basware alternatives for UK finance teams?

For UK mid-market finance teams, the main alternatives are Rillion, Yooz and ISPnext, which Stratas implements and supports in the UK, and Esker, Medius, Quadient AP, Stampli and Tipalti. Rillion suits complex, multi-entity AP. Yooz suits small and mid-sized teams wanting a cloud tool with little IT involvement. ISPnext suits groups that want source-to-pay on one platform.

Who implements Rillion, Yooz and ISPnext in the UK?

Stratas, a UK consultancy, resells, implements and supports Rillion, Yooz and ISPnext. We connect the platform to your ERP, configure the workflows, train your team and support it once you are live, under one contract with a UK team working UK hours.

Can we change AP platform and keep our ERP?

Yes. Every platform in this guide is designed to post into your existing ERP or accounting system, which stays the system of record. What varies is whether a ready connector exists for your exact ERP and version, so ask each vendor or partner how they connect to it and what data they validate before anything posts.

Which Basware alternative suits a multi-entity UK group?

Look for a platform that keeps each entity’s master data, VAT scheme and approval rules separate, and handles intercompany invoices. Rillion lists multi-entity management as a core feature, and we configure entity structures on Rillion, Yooz and ISPnext during design. For any platform, run invoices from at least two entities through it before you decide.

Can we buy Esker, Medius, Quadient AP, Stampli or Tipalti through Stratas?

No. Stratas resells, implements and supports Rillion, Yooz and ISPnext. For the other platforms in this guide, contact the vendor directly. If you are unsure which route fits, we are happy to talk it through.
